helping Parents to Support Babies and Young Children
class one
Image and Reality
Many parents struggle to reconcile the difference between their image of themselves as parents and the reality of having a new baby or small child. In this module we explore how we can help parents to differentiate between image and reality and to find self-acceptance. With greater acceptance, inner bonding with the self leads to a deepening of the bond with the baby or small child.
class two
Hearts not Heads in the Home
We are surrounded by theories of how we should parent our children. These are often conflicting with each other and with parents own instinctive feelings. This can lead to a lot of confusion and self-doubt and disconnect from the body. In this module we look at embodied practices to help parents become present with themselves and with bond through heart-centred presence with their baby or small child. Using scientific research from the Heart-Math Institute as a framework, you will see the value of shifting from the head to the heart in the parent-child relationship.
class three
Deep Listening and Empathic inquiry
After birth parents are often left with their own traumas, which make it hard for them to regulate their stress levels. This, in turn, undermines the capacity to co-regulate the stress levels of their baby. In this module we focus on the importance of deep listening to the experience of parents and how we can use empathic inquiry to help them connect with their inner resources. Developing our own capacity for non-judgemental presence, we can create a potential space in which parents can feel felt and supported in processing difficult and traumatic experiences.
