Singing is a powerful and ancient practice, present in all cultures throughout history as a means of communication and connection. Among our senses, hearing is the only one fully developed and functional before birth. This unique connection between voice and hearing offers profound benefits to both mother and child, especially at the beginning of life.

The mother’s voice not only fosters bonding but also provides stimulating and healing frequencies to her unborn child. After birth, familiar songs can offer the newborn a sense of stability and reassurance during a time of dramatic change. Singing can also empower the mother, giving her tools to support a more natural birthing experience.

In this talk prenatal music therapist Giselle Whitwell will show us the transformative power of the human voice, revealed through the geometric patterns of cymatics the study of visible sound and vibration. Giselle will examine how these patterns mirror those found in nature and discuss the pioneering work of acoustics engineer John S. Reid, whose research highlights the unique qualities of the human voice.
