Changing the Way the Wind Blows

How Can We Make a Practical Difference to Maternity Care?

with Ruth Weston
Thursday, 16 April 2026 at 19h UK time
As a young woman, Ruth Weston wanted to change the world to make it a better place. As a mother, discovering the gaping holes in good practice maternity care she sought to make a practical difference to maternity.

Many are faced with the reality that mothers and midwives are often deprived of the autonomy to structure the evidence based care they require. This is especially so for women and people of colour.

In her book ‘Born Stroppy’ Ruth offers alongside her story, strategies and tactics, tips and advice to hold the system and its leaders to account. She says: “(...) we owe it to the generations of female activists before us, and to the women and daughters that come after us, to disrupt harmful patterns and engender positive change in our time.”

Join us for an inspiring conversation as we reflect on what we can do - together – to help women get the care they need for a safe and happy maternity.
