meet Ruth Weston
social entrepreneur and community organiser
social entrepreneur and community organiser is the mother of five children born in Bradford. Eight weeks before the birth of her fourth child on impulse she bought Aquabirths Birthing Pools - because she liked it so much she bought the company! Building up this company funded her true passion which was to make UK maternity services a truly woman centred quality service, with continuity of midwifery carer at the heart of it. Ruth has worked alongside parents and professionals at every level, setting up birth and breastfeeding support groups, local and national campaigns, has chaired what is now called NMVP, spoken regularly on Radio and TV, and at conferences and seminars across the country. After several years recovering from burnout, she has now written up her experience so others can learn from her successes and failures in her book Born Stroppy: Make Change Happen.
