Pre- and Perinatal Scope of Practice

Training in pre- and perinatal approaches requires the practitioner to integrate a wide range of perspectives that are usually not part of how we think about early life. Moving away from the common purely biological approach, pre- and perinatal concepts correlate biological and physiological processes from conception to birth with embodied life as a human being. This opens up a new horizon for understanding human behaviour and supporting emotional healing.

In this class, we will look at the process we go through as practitioners from taking in and making our own the core tenets pre- and perinatal work is based on, through possibly questioning at least some of them, to finding our own personal therapeutic ground based on reflection and experience.

We will use examples such as cellular memory, implantation trauma or sequencing to show how these concepts can become a truly useful tool when applied with discernment and empathy. We will hear detailed case stories and learn different ways in which we can respond to clients who report or in whom we see early trauma.

During four sessions, we will learn about the process of transformation through conversations, practical applications, and embodied experiences. As we deepen into our capacity to “sense” we become more in touch with the Essential Body, as who we really are.

Session 2: As we open and experience the potential for growth, what often arises with the opening is resistance. An exercise with repeated questions allow us to explore and welcome the nature of resistance and its role in the process of providing the grit that allows the growth of presence.
