Pre- and Perinatal Scope of Practice

The Practitioner in the Mirror

Thursday, 10 December 2026 at 19h UK time
Within the pre- and perinatal field, practitioners of many disciplines share a set of powerful, and sometimes controversial, ideas about how early experience shapes a life.

This series of four classes invites us to hold those ideas with both openness and discernment. Rather than asking whether pre- and perinatal concepts are simply "true" or "false," we will explore how to work with them responsibly within our own scope of practice.

The Practitioner in the Mirror

By virtue of their modality, reputation and way of working, practitioners tend to attract a particular kind of client: a Craniosacral therapist's waiting room looks different from a psychotherapist's, which looks different from a birth-trauma specialist's  and each can easily mistake their own sample for the whole population.

This means the "evidence" accumulating in our practices is drawn from a pre-existing selection and we are primed to notice what our training has taught us to look for.

This session explores how these selection effects can quietly manufacture one-sided generalisations and how that risk connects directly to scope of practice: our particular vantage point shapes both who comes to us and what we perceive. We will look at practitioners in different disciplines to see how the same (imagined) client can be seen through completely different lenses.
During four sessions, we will learn about the process of transformation through conversations, practical applications, and embodied experiences.  As we deepen into our capacity to “sense” we become more in touch with the Essential Body, as who we really are.

Session 2: As we open and experience the potential for growth, what often arises with the opening is resistance. An exercise with repeated questions allow us to explore and welcome the nature of resistance and its role in the process of providing the grit that allows the growth of presence.
