Birth comes with a complex cocktail of hormones which, if uninhibited, equips the organism of the birthing mother for the intensity of the experience. In this class, doula and birth educator Chantal Traub will show how the nervous system shapes labour, oxytocin flow, and the experience of pleasure in birth. Through a Polyvagal informed lens, this class examines how safety, connection, and co-regulation support physiological birth and reduce trauma.

Designed for birth professionals and expectant parents alike, this presentation offers practical, evidence-informed tools to cultivate cues of safety in birth environments, strengthen vagal regulation, and support oxytocin-driven labour. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of why pleasure and safety are interdependent and how supporting the nervous system can open the pathway to more empowered, embodied, and even pleasurable birth experiences.

In this class John Wilks explores the history and uses of suction, vacuum extraction and ventouse and examines the implications for postnatal treatment approaches for both mum and baby.

John has been practising the Bowen Technique and Craniosacral Therapy full time since 1995. He is the author of four books on complementary therapies and developed a specialised Craniosacral training course for midwives which was the first of its kind to be accredited by the Royal College of Midwives.
