The daily reality of an independent midwife is hard to imagine. The physical and emotional toll this profession takes is one of the highest among service providers. At the same time, being so deeply immersed in bringing new life into the world is also profoundly enriching and for many, their midwife is an unsung hero. 

In this class, Irish Home Birth Midwife Ali Murphy will give us a glimpse of the multi-faceted reality of what is not a job but a calling. What is the quality of the relationship with the pregnant mum, the growing connection with the unborn, the collaboration with the medical profession? What does her own emotional journey look like as a birth approaches and she has to be available, support, make moment by moment assessments critical not just for the baby and families that she cares for but also for her professional license?

Join us for this unique opportunity to hear a midwife’s experience in its rawness and beauty. 

In this class John Wilks explores the history and uses of suction, vacuum extraction and ventouse and examines the implications for postnatal treatment approaches for both mum and baby.

John has been practising the Bowen Technique and Craniosacral Therapy full time since 1995. He is the author of four books on complementary therapies and developed a specialised Craniosacral training course for midwives which was the first of its kind to be accredited by the Royal College of Midwives.
