Pitocin – Rationale and Impact

with Karlton Terry
Thursday, 12 December 2024 at 19h UK time
Naturally, the human system is wired to initiate and complete birth without drugs. Yet, in many countries around the world and under various circumstances, it is considered necessary to induce childbirth with the synthetic hormone known as Pitocin.

Birthing women are not systematically advised, though, what the consequences and implications of the use of Pitocin can be, for both themselves as well as the baby.

In this class, Karlton will present how childbirth is an innate template for solidifying a formidable sequence of behaviours necessary for successful social functioning; namely initiating, sustaining, and completing tasks. Vaginal childbirth imprints a harmonic pattern of creativity and productivity for a baby.

We will explore the psychological consequences Pitocin imparts upon babies, including the breastfeeding relationship, the baby’s ability to sleep, the baby's ability to develop self-regulation, and further-reaching disorders such as ADHD, anxiety, and depression.
