Mapping the Infant Palate

with Clara Cunningham
Thursday, 23 April 2026 at 19h UK time
Supporting coherence from the very beginnings of life lays the foundation for lifelong regulation, embodiment, and relationship. Grounded in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, interpersonal neurobiology, and pre- and perinatal somatic psychology, this class presents a gentle, relational approach to working with newborns, infants, and their families.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist and Pre- and Perinatal Somatic Educator Clara Cunningham will help us explore midline orientation, palatal perception, birth integration, and the development of secure bonding within the infant–parent dyad. Participants will deepen their understanding of the midline and palate as organising forces in early development — not merely anatomical structures, but perceptual and relational fields that shape regulation and orientation.

We will focus on how to track infant nervous system cues through breath, tone, gaze, and subtle relational signals; support birth integration through presence, pacing, and non-directive contact; and work respectfully with parents as primary attachment figures and co-regulators. The distinctions between infant BCST and adult techniques will be emphasised, highlighting consent, simplicity, and relational safety.

In this class John Wilks explores the history and uses of suction, vacuum extraction and ventouse and examines the implications for postnatal treatment approaches for both mum and baby.

John has been practising the Bowen Technique and Craniosacral Therapy full time since 1995. He is the author of four books on complementary therapies and developed a specialised Craniosacral training course for midwives which was the first of its kind to be accredited by the Royal College of Midwives.
