The fetal position, adopted around 7–8 weeks after conception, symbolises a state of self-containment and protection. This position is tied to the development of the arms and hands, which are energetically connected to the heart.

In Chinese medicine, the arms are seen as extensions of the heart, with meridians like the heart protector (pericardium) running through them. The hands, which develop before the arms, are considered a direct expression of the heart’s energy.

The Stepping Vessels (or heel vessels) are associated with how humans adapt to standing upright and moving on Earth. They regulate day-to-day energies and help individuals stay present in their bodies.

Development of Movement in the First Year
Infants progress from the fetal position to lateral and contralateral movements, activating their limbs and midline. These movements are crucial for developing strength and coordination.

The Role of the Kidneys and Reproductive Organs
The legs and feet are connected to the kidney meridian and the reproductive organs, known as the "palaces" in Chinese medicine. The gate of life, located in the lower back, is a key energy centre tied to these vessels.

Suzanne offers practical exercises, such as lifting and dropping the heels or balancing on one leg, to stimulate the stepping vessels. These exercises help connect with our nervous system and stay present during the main practice but also in daily life.
