Equine Therapy for Regulation, Attachment & Resilience

Horses are highly perceptive creatures, who are able to mirror human emotional states through non-verbal cues—facial expressions, movement, breath, heartbeat, and posture—providing real-time feedback that fosters embodied awareness and emotional. They are

attuned to our energetic blueprint, capable of sensing where trauma resides in the body, and instinctively know how to shift distressing symptoms toward healing.

In this talk, equine therapist Nina Leijerstam shows how through the powerful process of nervous-system co-regulation, horses help bring us from states of hyper-arousal into the parasympathetic realm of “rest and digest.” Their calm, rhythmic physiology can even entrain our own heart-rhythm coherence—literally guiding us into a more settled state.

In the safety of this relational, experiential space—especially for adopted and fostered young people grappling with attachment wounds and trauma—horses gently clear stuck behavioural patterns. They restore our capacity to feel safe in connection, facilitate access to underlying causes of dysregulation, and help us recover harmony—echoing the resonance of natural, wild intelligence at the root of healing.
