The Healing Effects of Crying, Raging (and Laughter)

with Rebecca Sheikh
Stress and trauma early in life can alter children's neurobiological systems and lead to anxiety, behaviour problems, hyperactivity, attachment disorders, sleep problems, learning difficulties, depression, and physical illnesses.

Luckily, babies and children know how to heal from trauma if we give them the opportunity. The focus of this class is  on creating emotional safety and facilitating children's spontaneous stress-release mechanisms of mainly crying and raging but it also touches on the incredible benefits of play and laughter and how to support this.

Rebecca helps us explore the topic through reflective exercises and personal explorations of crying, raging and laughter in our own lives as this inevitably impacts our capacity to support crying, raging and laughter.

The class covers:

Crying is often caused by stress: Sources of stress for children and babies
Conditioned emotional response to trauma and physiology of stress
The physiological stress response
Healthy states and unbalanced states
Control Patterns
How crying is repressed
Broken cookie phenomenon
