Bonding and Attachment in the Womb and in the NICU

with Raylene Phillips
Evidence has been building for many years that bonding and attachment in the womb, in the hospital, in the birthing centre, and in the home are critically important to the growth, development, health, and well-being of all babies.
Bonding and Attachment in the Womb and in the NICU.
In this class, Associate Professor of Pediatrics/Neonatology Raylene Phillips shares from her extensive experience as a neonatologist, highlighting the importance of emotional connections between parents and their babies, whether in the womb or in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). We will learn about fetal behaviour, the physiology of the mother-baby in utero communication and various ways in which preterm babies can be supported in order to mitigate the impact of the medical environment and its interventions.
