Bonding and Attachment in the Womb and in the NICU

with Raylene Phillips
Thursday, 4 September  2024 at 19h UK time
Evidence has been building for many years that bonding and attachment in the womb, in the hospital, in the birthing centre, and in the home are critically important to the growth, development, health, and well-being of all babies.
Bonding and Attachment in the Womb and in the NICU

In this class, Associate Professor of Pediatrics/Neonatology Raylene Phillips will share from her extensive experience as a neonatologist, highlighting the importance of emotional connections between parents and their babies, whether in the womb or in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). We will learn about fetal behaviour, the physiology of the mother-baby in utero communication and various ways in which preterm babies can be supported in order to mitigate the impact of the medical environment and its interventions.

In this class John Wilks explores the history and uses of suction, vacuum extraction and ventouse and examines the implications for postnatal treatment approaches for both mum and baby.

John has been practising the Bowen Technique and Craniosacral Therapy full time since 1995. He is the author of four books on complementary therapies and developed a specialised Craniosacral training course for midwives which was the first of its kind to be accredited by the Royal College of Midwives.
