Somatic and Psychological Dynamics of Stage One of Birth
In Stage 1 the lie-side of the baby’s cranium, especially the greater wing of the sphenoid and the temples, are in strong contact with the mother’s lumbo-sacral promontory, the “LSP.” At this stage babies can struggle desperately depending on the intensity of contractions and the relative dilation of the cervix, or lack thereof.

Karlton explores the somatic dynamics and the compressional forces along the baby’s longitudinal axis and the psychological imprints that can result from the conjunct pathways initiated during this stage of birth.

Karlton also presents the obstetrical interventions that can impact the baby’s psyche at this stage, such as rupturing the amniotic sac, pitocin, ultrasounds and fetal monitors.
