Primitive Reflexes are complex, automatic movement patterns mediated by the brain stem. They start as early as the fifth week of gestation and are fully present at birth in full-term babies.

As these reflexes all develop in utero, it is fair to assume that our earliest imprints are connected in some way to a profile of retained reflexes in later life.

This course aims to provide an insight into these possible links and how the practitioner can identify them in their therapeutic practice.  Through theory and case studies, we will look in depth at three reflexes – how they develop, what may cause them to remain active and the consequences of their retention.
Jacqui Ellis is a Developmental Trauma Specialist and Integrative Baby Therapist who supports children, parents and families in understanding how their earliest experiences are still impacting their lives today.

In this course, Jacqui will help us gain an insight into:

  • the development of specific primitive reflexes
  • the purpose of the reflex
  • the factors that may cause the reflex to remain active and retained
  • the key clues to look for on a case history form
  • how to recognise the presence of a retained reflex in your client
